Ascension raises a unit's stats after evolution. Each Ascension level adds a small percentage to core stats (HP, damage, speed, range). The system is a long-term sink for endgame armies.

Ascension raises a unit's core stats by a small percentage per level. Unlike evolution (one-time unlock), Ascension is repeatable: you can Ascend the same unit many times, each level adding a modest percentage on top of what you already have.
